500 ML BOTTLE

The 500 ML bottle is a perfect restaurant sized bottle. When a couple wants to share a white wine with the starter and a red wine with the main course – choose a 500 ML bottle for each! The .375 ML (standard half bottle) is often too little, yet two 750 ML bottles may be too much wine for the evening. Often the wine-by-the-glass selection is too limited a selection. Obviously, we need more 500 ML choices to keep this rationale going.

The wine industry seriously considered the 500 ML package size in the early 1990’s but ran into pricing problems. The glass bottle, capsule, cork and labels are the same cost for a 500 ML bottle as for a 750 ML bottle, yet the consumer gets 1/3rd less wine and expects a comparable price adjustment. The resulting economics do not work out for the winery.

The final rationale for our decision was rather pragmatic. The nationally acclaimed restaurant that took almost all of our 2004 production re-quested the 500 ML bottle.

In 2005, we are adding1.5 liter bottles to our selection so consumers and restaurants that want to serve a larger number of people with our wines are not inconvenience by the smaller 500 ML size.
